Wedding Style Inspiration & Advice on RTE Today

Are you looking for some style inspiration on what to wear to a special family wedding?

Maybe you are Mother of the Bride or Groom, or a guest and want to look elegant but also appropriate on the day.

Family weddings are a wonderful occasion - but they can also be very stressful! On my first show back for 2018 on RTE Today, I showed 6 head to toe looks - for weddings at home and abroad - for ladies of all shapes and sizes - all from top Kerry boutiques and milliners.

With increased pressure on the bridal party to look the part, no one wants to 'let the side down'. So sometimes making the right decision on what to wear can result in a hasty choice outside your own personal style - which could make you feel uncomfortable on what should be a happy and memorable day.

It's also so important if you are going to make the investment and purchase something really glamorous - that you get the opportunity to wear it again  - whether to a race meeting, another wedding - or out to dinner ! Beautiful clothes are for dressing yourself, not your wardrobe - so always think about long term wearability.

I hope the following looks from top Kerry Boutiques Annburys, Hannons of Castleisland, Jasmine of Tralee and Footprints of Listowel, with bespoke headpieces by the talented milliner Cathy Troth give you some inspiration. There was an overwhelming response to the programme, so I think there is something for everyone. Links are below each look, but if you need any more information, please email or PM me or contact the boutiques or milliner directly. All of the featured boutiques sell online (but I think you are better to pop in also if possible) and Footprints have their extensive shoe collection (and accessories) available to view and purchase online at www.footprints.ie

My best advise is - whatever you decide, make sure YOU select an outfit you feel both stylish and completely comfortable in. Don't be talked into wearing a particular look, colour or style,  just to please others, or because you feel it's the right thing to do. Today, there are so many choices for Mother of the Bride and Groom from colourful fitted body con dresses and jumpsuits - to exquisite shift dresses with matching coats and chic trouser suits. All the boutiques featured above offer a styling service, and will be happy to help you decide and select the right accessories. It's also a good idea to look through magazines and online and tear out (or screen grab!) outfits that you like and styles and colours that you feel suit your body shape and complexion.

Importantly, don't leave it too late. If you have a family wedding in the late Spring or early Summer, you need to have your outfit sorted now. The really good looks and popular sizes sell out very quickly, so don't leave it to the last few weeks when helping plan the wedding may take precedence.

Also,  don't forget to buy shoes that are stylish but also comfortable to wear all day (kitten heels are a good idea!)!  As a member of the bridal party, etiquette and style - often mean you need to wear a headpiece, but as you also need to be seen in the photographs - so don't wear a headpiece that covers your face (such as a wide brimmed hat - I know they are popular but they completely conceal or shadow the face for photographs!). I have featured lots of easy to wear and affordable options above - and milliners such as Cathy Troth can create a headpiece to perfectly match your outfit.

Once you have selected your outfit, remember that what is underneath will make all the difference. To streamline and enhance your figure and hide any bumps, wear quality shape wear - such as Irish brand ATIR. (www.atir.ie). Atir shape wear is so popular with all ages and body shapes for a reason - it really works and is super comfortable to wear (you won't sweat in it and it won't slip down on your tights or cause static!). Atir is also available from over 200 independent boutiques nationwide including Annburys in Tralee.

LASTLY - bring a trusted friend - who will tell you the honest truth - along with you when shopping.

If you have any questions or need more information on any of the looks featured above, please PM me on Instagram, Twitter or Facebook on @orladiffily. I would love to hear from you.
